What do you really want?

‘What do you really want?’ A powerful question I often ask my clients when they’re feeling stuck. What this question does is to help you focus on what is important?

Often obvious answers from the conscious mind come forward, like ‘to be happy’, ‘to earn more money’, ‘to have more time with family and friends’, ‘to travel’. Some know the answer(s) straight away, others need time to think about it. By allowing the question to percolate for a few days, weeks, months or even years, often ideas from the subconscious mind, start to bubble to the surface.

This year I wanted to start building my online coaching and training business so that I can offer my clients more flexibility of when and how they receive coaching, which fits around their busy schedules, thus saving both time and money. I want to build a business that will enable me to travel and work from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. This goal has begun, I’m now in Singpore for a week staying in three different hotels, all with lovely warm pools – I’m used to swimming all year round in a lake, so this is a welcome change! Being in a new environment has unleashed my creativity.  In the middle of the night I found myself mind mapping and capturing ideas for for my new Shape Your Future workshop on vision and goal setting.  In the morning, I started preparing my presentation after having a swim and eating breakfast in a river cafe – living the dream. 🙂

IMG_2372What changes would you like to make in your career and life in general? How do you want transform and grow in 2018 and beyond?  What do you really want? Do you know? Do you have a plan and have you written it down?

To achieve a vision of our ideal life we need to set aside some thinking time.   Now is a good time of year to be reflecting on what has happened in 2017 and to start thinking about what you would you like to happen in 2018 and beyond?

To help get you started, here are a few questions to ponder. These type of questions develop deeper self-awareness and help us get to the heart of what makes us tick and what really matters.

  1. What’s important to you? (core values)
  2. What are you good at? (strengths)
  3. What excites and inspires you? (passions)
  4. What do you want (vision)

I would really encourage you to write down your thoughts in a notebook, or type them on to your phone, ipad, laptop or computer. This way you can allow your thoughts to develop over time and you will start to gain clarity of what you do want to do. At this stage it is not necessary to work out ‘how’, that comes later.

For over twenty-five years I have practiced the art of creating a vision for my business and personal life captured both in picture and written form. I have lived life on my terms. It hasn’t all been plain sailing, there have been many sacrifices and fears to overcome, yet it has all been worth it.

If you are looking to transform your life in 2018 and beyond, then come along to my new workshop – Shape Your Future, taking place on Thursday, 8th February near Farnham in Surrey.
