Speaking to sixth form students

I recently enjoyed speaking to 40 first year ‘A’ level students at The Royal School, Haslemere, about what they want their future to look like.  A wonderful opportunity to give younger people the time to press the pause button, step back, and think about what their hopes and aspirations are.

Some knew the direction in which they’re heading, others didn’t.  They drew comfort from knowing majority of their friends were thinking and feeling exactly the same way as they do. The message was clear:

  1. It’s okay to be scared, everybody is; it’s okay to change your mind, change direction.
  2. Become conscious of your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and actions, and how they how they are influencing your behaviour
  3. Think about and write down your goals of what you want to achieve in life and why?

Exciting and challenging times lie ahead for these young people. Hopefully they are now feeling a bit more resilient and resourceful. It will be interesting to follow up in a few months time to see what changes have taken place.
